It's pretty simple - when you produce your electricity through a solar power system (also known as a solar PV system), you are getting less electricity from your power provider. Your electricity bill will then be reduced or eliminated, resulting in thousands of pesos in savings!
You will save money month after month, year after year - for the next 25 years or more!
The payback period of your one-time investment is typically under 6 years! Then, from the 6th to the 25th year, you are harvesting "money" because your lowered (or eliminated) electricity bill allows you to have extra funds month after month for many years.
Solar PV systems have no moving parts. Our solar panels come with a 10-12 years warranty and 25 years performance guarantee, but most can last up to 40 years! How about rain or typhoons? No problem! Rain can clean the solar panels which can collect dust over time. Our roof mounts are leak-proof and are guaranteed to secure the solar panels to withstand stormy weather. We just recommend light washing with light soap and water every 6 months to clean the potential dust layer that may form in the panels.
Solar is the best renewable energy source! No fumes. No fossil fuel burned. No nuclear hazzard. And the good thing is, the Philippines is near the equator, with abundant sunshine year-long!
Solar is the most abundant energy source in the world. When do you think will the sun run out? It will last for countless generations to come! Did you know that the amount of solar energy hitting the earth in one hour can power the world's energy requirements for one whole year?
The Philippines is blessed to be located near the equator, where sunlight is abundant! Think about it - even if we experience rainy or stormy days from time to time...the number of sunny days far outnumber them!
And because solar PV cells produce electricity using daylight (not only hot direct sunlight), you can even harvest some electricity on a cloudy day!
An On-Grid or Grid-tied solar PV system relies on both the solar power you produce (or harvest) and electricity coming from the grid (like Meralco). During the day, your energy requirements are mostly met using solar. At night, the system switches back to getting electricity from the grid.
PROS:
- Simplest, most affordable system type
- Most economical, payback in 5.5 years
- After payback, you are generating money
CONS:
- No electricity dura ing power outage (no backup power)
Off-grid solar PV systems are fully independent of the grid. When the sun is up, it powers both the electricity needed during the day and charges high-capacity batteries. When the sun is down, the electricity stored in the batteries takes over.
PROS:
- independent from the grid, best for remote establishments (farms, islands, etc.) but is also applicable to any location that wants to totally eliminate their electricity bill
- quiet, zero-fumes alternative to generators
CONS:
- expensive because it uses more panels, higher capacity inverters, and adds batteries
- replace batteries after 8-10 years
A Hybrid solar PV system is a Grid-tied system but adds batteries. The electricity you generate through your PV panels during the day is used to power your electricity needs and at the same time, charge the batteries. When the sun is out or during a power outage, your batteries take over to power your electricity needs. When the batteries fully discharge, you automatically and seamlessly switch back to getting your power from the grid.
Though more costly than a grid-tied system, the advantage of using batteries is that you can continue to have an electricity supply even in power outages. If you have critical equipment or appliances that you need to be turned on even with a brownout (aircon for infants, sick, or the elderly; use of water pressure pumps, or any other need for uninterrupted electricity), then a hybrid PV system may be the right one for you.
PROS:
- you have backup electricity anytime via the batteries
- power you store in the battery can be partially used at night, resulting to further savings
- peace of mind
There are instances where your GRID-TIED or HYBRID solar PV system can harvest more electricity than your home or establishment consumes. For example, when your whole household is out of the house for a whole day or several days, the appliance that is turned on may just be the refrigerator, or a couple of lights. Or for offices that have fewer or zero electricity requirements on weekends. For both examples, the sun can be out and hitting your solar panels, but there is very little or zero load of appliances.
This is where NET METERING comes in.
An additional electricity meter is installed alongside your current meter. The Net Meter reads both the electricity you produce and consume. Excess solar electricty you produce is "exported" back to the grid. This results in setting-off units against the electricity you consume from the grid. It's as if the grid is "buying" the excess electricity you produce, though at a lower rate than what you buy it from them. But still, having a Net Metering system allows you to further reduce your monthly electricity bill! Some people even intentionally get a bigger capacity solar PV system so that they can export back to the grid.
You can apply for a Net Meter through your local electricity grid (like Meralco). But if you get your solar power system from us, it is already included in the cost.
